EU budget allocations per country – past vs future

Calculating the budget evolution from the 2014-2020 framework to the released May 2018 draft for 2021-2027 (Source: European Commission).

EU budget variations per inhabitant (in %)
With the diminution of revenues due to Brexit and the decision to reduce Cohesion funding as the East realised the expected progress, the allocation of most European countries is expected to diminish in the next budget framework. Central European countries are particularly impacted by the cut. Conversely, Southern Europe appears spared: Spain, Italy and South-Eastern Europe are exceptions to the above rule. The European Commission took into consideration GDP evolution figures mainly (see map 2) before proposing this scenario to the European Council and to the European Parliament.
